Hi, I’m Robyn and I’m “A Bit Crunchy.” I work to find balance between a “crunchy” lifestyle and convenience. My goal is to share what I learn along the way, and hopefully some products that can help you be, “A Bit Crunchy” too.
What Does A Bit Crunchy Mean?
While I know the benefits of eating 100% whole real foods, buying only organic, skipping chemical laden cleaning supplies and only using beauty products that are free of toxins – I also realize it isn’t realistic 100% of the time (at least for my family). Since we know better, we will do better, BUT it’s not worth going crazy over!
Being A Bit Crunchy means finding the best products we can with the fewest, cleanest, and hopefully organic ingredients. It means making things from scratch when you can, but finding products without a ton of scary ingredients when you can’t.
My Journey Here
I’ve come a long way on my journey to becoming “A Bit Crunchy.”
In college I enjoyed cooking, but a lot of times that meant using a boxed meal and adding meat. I think my first step towards a crunchier lifestyle was my sophomore year of college when I decided to give up soda. At the time I was drinking 2-3/day and realized it wasn’t doing me any favors. I cut it out cold turkey and never looked back.
As time went on and I continued to more about how things you put in and on our bodies can affect our health. Step by step I gave up most of the processed, chemical laden foods and products in my life. I started sourcing meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables locally. I was buying half a hog and a quarter of a cow and storing the meat. We drank raw milk and spring water from glass bottles.
Cooking everything from scratch was becoming an obsession of mine. From salad dressing to tortillas, ice cream and even my dogs food. We cleaned with vinegar, water and homemade cleaning supplies. While I did all of this I was also working full time as a Realtor and helping my husband with his business. I was BUSY!
In 2014 my daughter was born. As much as I had stocked my freezer and prepared things in advance there was no way to keep up with it all and be a full time mama. Something had to give!
That is when I realized a healthy lifestyle means keeping your sanity too. We could still source as much as possible locally but if I missed the weekly Farmers’ Market the world wasn’t going to end. If I had to buy tortillas, I could find a brand with just a few organic ingredients. Homemade cleaning products were great for many things, but there are some awesome brands out there that realistically do a better job and are just as safe.
Then my husband started an ecommerce business and we both knew the products we wanted to sell had to live up to our standards! We wanted to partner with companies like Red Boat Fish Sauce, made with only 2 ingredients! And Zia Green Chile Company, fire roasted Hatch chiles, with just a few clean ingredients in glass jars instead of chemical filled cans!
With encouragement of friends and family, who are always happy to hear my advice when it comes to healthy foods and products, I decided to launch this page. Hopefully by sharing my passion I can help you find the balance of being, “A Bit Crunchy.”
